9-5 The Musical turns St Helens into 'Dollywood' this Autumn!

After the sell-out success of last year’s ‘Sister Act The Musical’, Pilkington Musical Theatre Company brings the multiple Grammy Award winning Dolly Parton’s ‘9 to 5 The Musical’ to St Helens Theatre Royal this Autumn from October 11th to 13th.

This sharp witty musical adventure is perfect for anyone who ever wanted to string up their boss! Based on the hit movie with music and lyrics by Dolly Parton, '9 to 5 The Musical' is a story of friendship and revenge in the Rolodex era. The title song, “9 to 5,” has become the working woman’s anthem.

The plot shines a spotlight on the plight of women in the workplace in the late 1970s. Pushed to the boiling point, three female co-workers concoct a plan to get even with the boss. In a turn of events, Violet (Diane Glover), Judy (Katie Speakman) and Doralee (Sarah Johnson) - played in the movie by Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda and Dolly Parton - live out their wildest fantasy, giving their bigoted boss the boot!

Normally seen strutting the stage in more elaborate costumes and pantomime gowns, talented St Helens resident Pantomime Dame, Simon Foster, not only directs this hilarious comedy, but also plays the leading male role of Franklin Hart, Jr., the egotistical and sexist boss.

While Hart hilariously remains “otherwise engaged,” the women give their workplace a dream makeover, taking control of the company that had always kept them down.

The musical bonanza is sure to delight audiences and even has a special digital guest appearance from Dolly Parton herself.

Adapted from the hit 1980 film, ‘9 to 5 The Musical’ is the 20th highest grossing comedy film of all time and has been named to the American Film Institute’s list of ‘100 Funniest Movies.’ Dolly Parton’s title song, ‘9 to 5,’ received two Grammy Awards, an Academy Award nomination and was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Artists of America. The musical opened on Broadway in 2009 and was nominated for four Tony Awards, including Best Score and a record-breaking 15 Drama Desk Awards. The book is written by the film’s original screenwriter, Patricia Resnick, with music and lyrics by Dolly Parton.

9 to 5 The Musical tickets runs from October 11th to 13th with a matinee performance on October 13th and tickets are on sale from St Helens Theatre Royal Box Office on 01744 756000 or book here
